Mr. Marques is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Leocadia “Maria” Marques. He has four loving children; Felix Marques, Nelia Tarango (Frank), Emily Porter (Brian) and John Marques (Mindy). He was blessed by his grandchildren; Nate Porter, Amanda Porter, Justin Tarango, Ashley Tarango, Kaitlynn Tarango, Kourtney Marques, Stephanie Marques, Victoria Marques and Christina Marques. He is also survived by his four siblings; Fernando Machado, Mary Azevedo, Gilberta Silveira, and Amelia Gomes.

Joao was born in July 1, 1936 in Sao Jorge, Azores, and immigrated to America in 1969.  He was a landscaper by trade, owning and operating “Marques Gardening” in Mt. View for over 30 years. After retirement Joao moved to Manteca where he called home for over 15 years. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Portuguese Hall in Manteca “FESM” and Oakdale’s Hall “FES.” He loved the outdoors especially camping, fishing and tending to his garden. He enjoyed weekly trips to local casinos; always hoping to hit “the big one.” His number one hobby was wine making, which he enjoyed serving at family get-togethers. Joao truly had a green thumb; his back yard was his heaven on earth as he took great pride in all of his landscaping. Among all of Joao’s hobbies and enjoyments his true love was his family. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren as he always encouraged them in all of their hopes and dreams. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful father and an amazing grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
