Joel Cooprider, 70, of Schoolhouse Road, Calhoun, passed away Friday, March 13, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family in the comfort of his home.

Mr. Cooprider was born on August 7, 1938 in Missouri, son of Idabelle Dennis Cooprider and the late Elbert Cooprider. Joel retired from the Davy International — Kvaerner Engineering Office located in San Roman, CA after 33 years of dedicated service. His work took him to New Zealand, Brazil, Portugal, Chile, Japan, and China as well as throughout the United States. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, hunting, and fishing and loved family gatherings.

Mr. Cooprider is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Cooprider of Calhoun, GA; son Greg Cooprider and wife Tammy of South Carolina; daughter Vicki Mixon and husband Gerald of FL; stepson Tom Noland and wife Phyllis of CA; step-daughters, Dena England and husband David of Damme, CA, Karen Martin and husband Jeff of Calhoun; one brother, Pat Cooprider and wife Shirley of GA; 2 sisters, Shirley Terry and husband Shannon of FL, Viva Petterson and husband Larry of FL, and his loving mother, Idabelle Cooprider of FL; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Joel Cooprider was held Monday, March 16, at the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Pearson officiating. Interment followed in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving included Gregory Cooprider, Chan Ly, R.J. Martin, Jeff Martin, Shaun Martin and Tom Nolan.
