John Domingo, 79, entered into rest on Monday, May 17, 2010 in Manteca, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
John was born to John and Anna Elizabeth Domingo on Jan. 2, 1931 in Manteca. He joined his parents, and 4 brothers and sisters in Heaven.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Irene Domingo of Manteca; his sister, Dedee Corral, brothers, Frank Domingo, Max Domingo, Jack Domingo; his children, John Domingo, Wendy and husband Loren Mears, Rick Domingo, Mona and husband Jack Williamson, John Carpenter, lovingly adopted son Rick Domingo; 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
John spent most of his life in Manteca, although he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States enjoying every minute of their time together. John was the owner of various car lots in the valley area and was known to be an expert in automotive mechanics and auto body repair. He was also an avid race car fan. In the early years of Ron Strmiska’s racing career he built the engines for his cars, as well as being part of his pit crew.
John loved fishing and traveling. He especially enjoyed searching for antiques and unusual artifacts. He also met many well known people such as Alexander Darson, who played the first Zorro, Jack Elam, Jack Jones, and Jack Palance to mention a few. John loved children and they loved him, he could be a buddy to a five-year-old as easy as someone his own age. The tiny voice of “Can John come out and play?” was a testimony to the rapport he had with children.
John was an avid gambler, it was not unusual for his wife Irene to get a call at work from him. “Guess where I am?” he would say...of course it would be Laughlin. John had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest, following his dreams and desires with the tenacity of a true adventurer. His booming voice and his gentle smile were infectious, a free spirit unmatched by most.
John has gone beyond the sunset, but he will always be in our hearts. He will be sorely missed, but the memories he left with his family and friends will keep us comforted until we meet again.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, June 19, at 1 p.m. at the Almond Blossom Estates Club House at 1901 E. Yosemite and Pestana Avenue, Manteca.
