John Edward VanDerostyne

John Edward VanDerostyne passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home in Ripon at the age of 70.  John was born on December 2, 1949 in Marshall, Minnesota to parents, Andrew and Velma VanDerostyne.
   John has been a resident of Ripon for the past 15 years.  John met and married Mary Long in 1967, after 16 years of marriage and two children, the couple went their separate ways and divorced in 1983.  In 2001, the two found each other, reconnected and remarried, spending the rest of John’s life together.  John owned a successful framing company (JDM) for nearly 20 years.  After retiring, John spent his time managing their small vineyard, wine making, going on jeep runs with the Joaquin Jeepers Jeep Club and helping his family and friends with various construction projects.  John was a mentor and a role model to countless carpenters and tradesmen for over 40 years.  
   John leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Mary VanDerostyne, his children, Kathy VanDerostyne and David VanDerostyne (Carleen), his grandchildren, Eric Azevedo, Allison Azevedo, Chase VanDerostyne and Olivia VanDerostyne.  John also leaves behind his siblings, Richard VanDerostyne, Rita Wilson, Yvonne Phillips, Mary VanDerostyne, Joanne OsBorne and Ruth Benjamin.  John is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James VanDerostyne and his sister, Irene Schlag.
   Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the VanDerostyne family.  A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
