John P. Mayse came to this earth on August 5, 1969 and left us much too early on September 1, 2010. John will be remembered as someone who was always there for everyone else and ready to have fun. John, a native of Manteca, California, grew up on Frances Street.

John enjoyed his childhood with the many kids in the neighborhood and with the Model A club his family belongs to. John played football and ran track for the Manteca Buffaloes. When John’s long time companion Sandie Cowan passed he moved back to Frances Street to care for his mother. John was not only there for her but for the rest of the aging neighborhood, helping with the garbage cans, finding the lost dog, or just checking in to see if you needed anything. John was happiest enjoying the outdoors. He loved the beach and spent lots of time in the Santa Cruz area. He enjoyed camping at Pinecrest or just simply floating down the river at Caswell. John also loved animals, and he always had a dog or cat or two following him around. John did not have any children of his own, but you would not think he did the way he doted on his twin nieces Kelly and Kirsten. They were his pride and joy.

John will live forever in our hearts and prayers. He was a great son, brother, uncle, grandson, cousin, nephew, neighbor and friend.

John is preceded in death by his father Gary L. Mayse (Manteca, CA), maternal grandparents Eda and Louis Mazza Sr. (Stockton, CA), paternal grandparents Laura and Paul Mayse (Sonora, CA) and long time companion Sandie Cowan.

John is survived by his immediate family: mother Rita Mayse, sister Kathy (Matt) Cates, and his nieces Kelly and Kirsten, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at noon at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 East North Street in Manteca, CA. A reception will follow at the Masonic Hall, 212 North Powers Avenue in Manteca. In lieu of flowers, place make a donation to your local SPCA.
