Josephine G. Herrera died bravely and peacefully on May 26, 2010.  She was born in Dow, Oklahoma, and was raised there.  She spent most of her adult life traveling and settled in Merced, CA for more than 30 years before moving to Manteca, CA in 2008.

Josephine was a loving caring spiritual mother.  She unselfishly gave to others all that she could.  Josephine loved roses, going to the casino, bingo, learning to play poker, Elvis, dancing and country music.  She will be truly missed.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband J.W. Jones, her parents James and Frances Mendez and by two sons Jimmy W. Jones and Donald Farris.

Josephine is survived by her sister Vera Morris of Merced, her children Sharon K. Jones, Linda L. Reyes, Diane Jones and Irene Ornelas, all of Merced, CA.  George Farris Jr. of Benicia, CA and Carolyn Burks of Manteca, CA.  She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A public visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in the Chapel of Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced.  Recitation of the Holy Rosary will start at noon with the Mass of Christian Burial to start immediately after that also on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 1220 ‘M’ Street in Merced. Burial will be at the Merced District Cemetery located at 1300 ‘B’ Street also in Merced, California.

All funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home located at 901 West Main Street-Merced.
