Karl Carl Ewing Stark

Services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 for former Manteca resident Carl Ewing Stark, 75, who passed away December 14, 2008 at his home in Kapaa, Kauai.

Carl was born in West Hollywood, California to the late Grover Cleveland Stark, Jr. and the late Mary Frances Fancher Collatz.  Carl was a quality assurance inspector with Marshall Engineering for many years and lived in Manteca for 13 years with his late wife Opal, before retiring and moving to Kauai in 1999.  He worked as a security guard for Freeman Guards of Lihue, Kauai until his passing.  Carl was a racecar enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, boating, gardening and being the historic and geographic authority of his local community.

 Mr. Stark is survived by his step-daughters, Vickie Watry, Charlotte and Ron Cheek, Sandra and Chester Hollis all of Manteca, ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.  He is survived by his step-mother, Ange Stark of Sun City, California; brothers, Robert Stark and Steve Stark of Southern California; sisters, Terry Maynes of Castaic, California and Nannette Gildersleeve of Clinton, Washington; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful cockatiel, Peter, still residing in Kapaa, Kauai.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Opal May Stark, and his step-son, Ricky Allan Kester.

Funeral services will begin at  noon today at Parkview Cemetery, 3661 E. French Camp Road, Manteca.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Kauai Hospice, 4457 Pahe’e Street, Lihue, HI  96766 or the American Cancer Society.
