On Monday, January 23, Larry D. Hopkins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away at the age of 78. Born to Earl and Pauline Hopkins and raised on

the San Joaquin Delta.

Larry developed his passion for the water. Larry also loved swimming and held the record in backstroke at his high school for many years. While in college

and serving in the National Guard, he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in History, a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family

Counseling, and later a General Contractors License. After teaching elementary school for many years, Larry met his future wife, Donna. Together they moved to Del Rio, Texas, where Larry worked with his brother Roger Hopkins in construction. Larry and Donna were married for nearly 43 years. Larry was active in the Stockton Sailing Club where he enjoyed sailing with his sister Linda Purdy and friend Mike

Kennedy. Many of his favorite experiences and memories were shared with family and friends sailing on the San Joaquin Delta, through the San Francisco Bay and in the San Juan

Islands.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, daughters Jennifer Frey and Rebecca Yrigoyen, five grandsons, his brother Roger Hopkins and sister Linda Purdy, as well as his dear and longtime friend Gary Aksland. He thoroughly enjoyed life and will be missed beyond measure by all who loved and knew him.

A private celebration of life will be held in February in Eagle, ID and April in Manteca, CA.  “Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbor. Catch the wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Author Unknown
