Leila Barnec Obit Pic bw

Leila Marie Barnec, of Lincoln, California, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the age of 72.  Leila, known to most as “Grammy”, was born July 6, 1943 in Earlimart, California to James Southern and Velma Looney.  Velma married Shannon Peters in 1957, where they raised eight children together.
Leila is preceded in death by Brenda Peters and Geneva Gray.  She is survived by the remaining five siblings, Stephen Peters, Sharon Lawley, Karen Lofdahl, Stella Warford, and Mary Kirby.  Leila spent most of her life in Manteca, California, where she met her husband whom precedes her in death, Clyde Barnec.  They were married March 17, 1961 in Reno, Nevada.  Their only daughter, Alison Hartsgrove, was Leila’s best friend.  Alison married Robert Hartsgrove and blessed Clyde and Leila with three granddaughters, Amber Castor, Audrey Hartsgrove, and Amy Taylor.  They also are survived by four great grandchildren, Dylan Castor, Faith Escoto, Noah and Hunter Taylor.
Leila worked for the Sharpe Army Depot as a Safety Specialist, where she retired after a dedicated 20 years of service.  Leila fully encompassed the words loving, gentle and kind hearted. She loved everyone unconditionally, with her whole heart. She was instantly loved by all whom were lucky enough to know her.  Leila loved nothing more than to dance her heart away while singing along to her favorite Elvis songs.  She would spend hours on end playing dice, card games or the slots at the casino.  She truly, above all else, cherished time with her family and friends.  She was the light in any room she entered and captured your heart immediately. She will be dearly missed by many.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca, CA. An online guest book is available for condolences at www.plfryandson.com (Search Obituaries).
