   Lena Assunta Josephine Hat was born in Manteca, CA on January 15, 1928.  She entered into rest on April 21, 2015 in Modesto.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony R. and Mary Grace Hat, her brothers, Lucas, Marion, Floyd and Henry Hat and her sister, Margaret DeVinny of Hayward, CA. 
   Lena is survived by her sister, Anita Corder of Stockton, CA, nephews and nieces and caring friends, Vanessa Mancilla and Caroline Dadesho.
   Lena lived many years surrounded by her family’s vineyards, with her parents and her 6 siblings.  She graduated from Ripon High School.  Lena graduated from UC Berkeley, majoring in English and she completed advanced studies at Columbia University in New York.
   During World War II, she worked in San Francisco’s Presidio.  Lena was a high school English teacher at Manteca High School and was among the first faculty at East Union High School where she worked until her retirement.
   Lena was happy in her home and garden.  She enjoyed baking, sewing, reading and trips to her parents’ native Italy.  She continued to play the piano which she studied as a child. She moved from the family home to her current residence in Modesto.
  Services for Lena Hat are under the direction of  P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home.  A visitation is scheduled on Wednesday, April 29, from 3pm to 7pm followed by a Rosary at 7pm at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca.  A Mass will be held on Thursday, April 30, at 10:30am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 E. North Street, Manteca.  Final resting place will be St. John’s Cemetery, Ripon.  Remembrances in Lena’s name can be sent to Wounded Warrior Project, Attn: Advanced Guard, P.O.
