Lenna Shockey
December 11, 1915-August 28, 2011
OBIT Shockey

Lenna Shockey entered into rest on August 28, 2011 in Manteca, California. She was born on December 11, 1915 in Utah to the late Horace and Ethel Cannell. She joins her parents in heaven as well as her husband in heaven, Walter “Red” Shockey. She is survived by her children, Lee Shockey and wife Juniata of Oakland, Rita Olson of Manteca, Dennis Shockey and wife Carolyn of Ripon, Russell Shockey and wife Nikki of Manteca and Wayne Shockey and wife Jan of Modesto. She was blessed by 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition, Lenna has six siblings who survived  her; Glenn Cannell of Riverside, Norman Cannell of Rialto, Merlin Cannell of Idaho, Ruth Warner of Idaho, Deeann Medenhall of Idaho, and Carol Martin of Idaho.

Before moving to the San Joaquin Valley, Lenna lived in Los Angeles attending Dress Design School as well as Art Design School, receiving her degree in the mid 1930’s. On April 15, 1939 Lenna married her sweetheart “Red” in Los Angeles; they then moved to Manteca 69 years ago. Upon moving to Manteca Lenna became active in her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints - Pine Street Ward. While raising her family, Lenna involved herself with teaching Sunday school and was one of the key supporters in their church building fund by raising funds through baking and making specialty candies and sweets. She was a member of the Modesto Dixieland Jazz Society as she loved to dance and socialize with her husband Red. She was also a proud member of the Manteca Artist Guild as many would say, “she had a gift for painting beautiful murals.” She loved traveling in her RV often taking her grandchildren to the mountains and the ocean. Just last year Lenna traveled to Hawaii with her daughter-in-law Juanita, as she was extremely proud that at 94 she swam for the first time in 60 years in the beautiful Pacific Ocean of Hawaii. Lenna was always a positive woman; she constantly found the good in everyone she met. Lenna was a wonderful example to those she came in contact with; she lived her life with faith in the Lord as she loved others unconditionally.
