Leo Phillip Cardinal Jr. age 80 of Lexington, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at Purcell Municipal Hospital. He was born May 27, 1933 in Purcell, OK the second child of three children born to Leo Phillip Cardinal Sr. and Jewell Margaret (Guess) Cardinal. Leo moved to Manteca, California at the age of seven with his family. There he attended school and graduated with the class of 1952. That same year he married the love of his life, Ruby Delores Elliott. They were married on January 27, 1952. One year later in 1953, Leo joined the U. S. Air Force and for the next four years he proudly served his country overseas during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged in 1957 he returned home and began his lifelong career of working in the road construction industry. Leo and Ruby raised three sons, Leo III, James and Kyle and remained living in California until 1973. At that time they moved to a small acreage NE of Lexington, OK. While his sons were in high school at Lexington, he became their biggest sports fan and never missed any of their football, basketball or baseball games. While living in Lexington Leo worked as a job superintendent for various private road contractors including Dale Wall and Vantage Construction. After he retired in 1995, Leo became an avid college and professional sports fan. He enjoyed staying home and watching sports on TV. He also liked tinkering and fixing things around the home. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
   He was preceded in death by: parents: Leo Sr. and Jewell Cardinal, sister Carmen Bishop, two brothers-in-law: Jerry Bishop and V. D. Mitchell
   He is survived by: wife Ruby Cardinal of the home, three sons: Leo P. Cardinal III and wife Janet of Rosedale, James Cardinal of Lexington, Kyle Cardinal of Purcell, one sister:     Delores Mitchell of Purcell, two sisters-in-law:  Nadine Cimoli and Ada Reynolds and husband Mike both of CA, four grandchildren; Leo Cardinal IV, James Elliott Cardinal, John Randolph Cardinal and Sherry Aresco and husband Anthony. Also several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
   Graveside funeral services will be at 2pm on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, OK. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, OK.
