LeRoy Joseph Bernardo of Manteca entered into rest on Saturday, January 11, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years Priscilla Dian Bernardo and parents Raymond and Rose Bernardo.
   Born April 7, 1938 LeRoy was a native of Newark and graduated from Washington High School in 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Operating Engineers.
   LeRoy moved to Manteca in 1980 to pursue his dream of being a farmer. He truly thought his ranch was “God’s country”. LeRoy was recently elected to the Irrigation District Board of Trustees.
   LeRoy is survived by his children: Deawn and Todd Weiher of Escalon, and Raelean and Bob Godfrey of Manteca; his grandchildren: Nicole Weiher, Robert Godfrey, Mathew Godfrey, Daniel Godfrey, and Jorden Weiher; his sisters: Carol and Gene Davis of Castro Valley, and Shirley and Hank Martin of Redding; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime friend and companion Dawn McCarty.
   Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, from 5-8pm with a vigil at 6:30pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 22, 10:30am at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 5788 Thornton Ave., Newark, CA 94560. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.
