Margaret “ Joan” Shaefer, 77, entered into rest Friday, March 19, in Manteca. She was born May 27, 1932 in Richmond, CA.

Mrs. Shaefer was a resident of Manteca for 76 years. Joan joins her husband, the late Charles “Chuck” Shaefer and parents Ross and Gladys Salmon in heaven.

She leaves behind her children; Tom Shaefer and wife Pat of Modesto, Charlotte Shaefer of Manteca, Chris Shaefer and wife Janice of Los Angeles, Jon Shaefer and wife Angela of Manteca. Margaret also leaves behind her brother Don Salmon and his wife Ellen of Manteca. She was also blessed by 11 grandchildren: Matthew Shaefer and wife Alicia, Christopher Shaefer, Jeffrey Shaefer, Michael  Shaefer, David Shaefer, Lauren Shaefer, Taylor Shaefer, Jonathon Shaefer, Erika Mosquera, Jessica and husband Robert Walraven, Corrine Shaefer, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Born Margaret Joan Salmon, Joan was a 5th generation San Joaquin County Salmon family descendent and graduate of Manteca High class of 1950. Joan lived most of her life in Manteca where along with her late husband, former Manteca  Mayor Chuck Shaefer were actively involved in many civic, fraternal  and community organizations. These included the Manteca Chamber of Commerce, Manteca Special Events Committee, Manteca 4th of July Committee, Manteca Babe Ruth, the original Manteca Cowboys Youth Football Organization and she also served a four year term as a Commissioner on the San Joaquin Juvenile Justice Commission. Joan was a past Worthy Advisor  and past Mother Advisor of Manteca Rainbow Assembly, a Manteca Demolay  “Mom” and a member of the Pentalpha Chapter, Order of the Eastern  Star.

 She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Mom touched many people’s lives and although  she will be greatly missed, she will always  be fondly and lovingly remembered.
