Marie Ardell Vander Beek, 86, a longtime Ripon resident, peacefully passed away in her sleep following a long illness on Wednesday, November 2.
   She was born Marie Ardell Heaton in Weaverville on November 29, 1929, to Maris and Juanda Heaton and was the youngest of four children. Her family moved to Ripon when she was young. She attended Ripon schools and in 1947 graduated from Ripon High School, where she was a member of the marching band and speech teams.
   On September 5, 1947 she married her childhood sweetheart Gerhard “Hardy” Vander Beek, and they were together for 51 years until his death in 1998, raising children Cliff, Darlys, Juanda Beth and Brian. Hardy and Ardell were active members of Calvary Reformed Church, where both were members of the choir and frequently sang as a duo for services.
   Ardell is survived by her children Cliff (Mary) Vander Beek of Fresno, Juanda (George) Rogers of Minden, Nev., Brian (Sharon) Vander Beek of Salida, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Hardy, daughter Darlys, brother Homer Heaton and sisters Martha Rogers and and Bonnie Gelderman.
   Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel, 111 S. Palm Ave., Ripon. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA, 95356.
