Martin “Marty” Hill, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 with his family by his side. He was born July 13, 1933 in Fruitland, ID, to Levi and Eva Hill. He worked many years as a sawyer in the saw mills in Idaho. Once moving back to the Valley in the late 1980s he settled in Manteca and owned and operated his own Shell Station.

A resident of Manteca for the last 20 years, he leaves behind his adoring wife of 20 years, Maria M. Graham-Hill; children Kathy Ishoy and husband, James of Reno, NV; Lyle Hill, Jr. and wife, Ann of Trona, CA; Randy Hill and wife, Kelly of Durango, CO; Don Hill and wife, Melody of Eagle Point, OR; Rose Higginbotham and husband, Burney of Manteca; James Graham and wife, Melissa of Ripon; Bill Michael Graham and wife, Callie of Waterford.; and siblings; Dolores Raquel of Galt; Leland Hill and wife, Rosie of Ridgecrest, CA; Maxine Boger of San Andreas; Evelyn Agagni and husband, Bernard of Kingman, AZ; and brother-in-law Walt Colley of New Plymouth, ID. He was also blessed with 33 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Martin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. A very kind and generous man; always helping out anyone in need with no questions asked. He was the true patriarch of the family and still a kid at heart. He treasured the time he spent with his grandkids; always getting down on the floor and playing with them, but never once complaining about aches or pains. He had a great sense of humor and was always upbeat and happy. Marty enjoyed many things in life; coin collecting, camping and hunting, and taking scenic drives, but his all-time favorite pass time was trying his luck at the casinos. Whether it was at Casino Real or Jackson Rancheria, he loved playing poker and watching the horse races.

Marty had the ability to walk into a room and light it up with his wonderful smile. He will truly be missed by everyone that was lucky enough to have known and loved him. He is preceded in death by his sons; Mark A. Hill and Rocky K. Hill. siblings; Dean Hill, Norma Hill, Wanda Rupp, David Hill, Bobby Hill, and Zelma Colley. His loving sister Zelma joined Martin in heaven just hours after his passing.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009, 2 p.m. at Northgate Brethren Church, 650 Northgate Drive, Manteca. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent in Marty’s name to Easter Seals,  Attn: Giving Coordinator, 233 South Wacker Drive, Suite 2400, Chicago, IL 60606.
