Mary E. Smith
March 3, 1918-January 6, 2016
Mary Smith Obit Pic

Mary E. Smith, 97, was born March 3, 1918 in Paris, Texas. Her faith became sight when she entered into rest on January 6, 2016 in Manteca, California. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Smith and her siblings Louis, Otis, Ozell, and Clifton. She is survived by her children Stan (Elissa) Smith, Jimmy Leroy (Brenda) Smith, Caron (Bob) Grasso, sisters Benny and Cleo, and brother Theo. She was blessed with nine grandchildren Jeff, Stan, Shelley, Peggy (Kyle), Tom (Tracy), Bobby (Cindy), Eric (Jennifer), Sarah (Josh), and Kimberley (George), 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Always by her side was her very close friend Alice Grasso.
Mary was a very kind hearted person who loved her neighbor as herself.  She spent time at various jobs including the Manteca Cannery, and Manteca Frozen Food where she became a line foreman. She really found her true calling when she became a nurse’s aide, spending time at both Palm Haven and Manteca Hospital. She was always available to visit with those that were feeling sick and would come to the aid of those in need without a second thought.  She was a very proud and devoted member of the Church of Christ. She was known for her faith in God. She took part in the explorer’s bible study group, and would read her bible front to back at least twice a year. She was an amazing cook and may have had the very best fried chicken and green beans ever made according to those lucky enough to have it.
Among all of Mary’s attributes her family was most important. She will be remembered for her faith in God and her unconditional love of her family. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
