Mary Eulalia DaRosa, 68, entered into rest on May 9, 2010 in her Manteca residence wrapped in the loving embrace of family and friends.  She was born on October 14, 1941 in Faial, Azores , and was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Antonio and Maria Andre, and her grandson Emerson Avila-DaRosa.

Among those left to mourn Mary’s passing is her loving husband of 48 years, Joe S. DaRosa of Manteca .  Mary’s grieving family also includes her son Kenneth DaRosa and his wife Mary Avila-DaRosa, and their children Camille and Jamieson Avila-DaRosa of Sacramento .  Mourning as well is her son Christopher DaRosa of San Francisco.  Mary is survived by her sister Hilda Goyette of Stockton , and brothers Victor Andre of Manteca , and Joe Andre of Clements, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.

Mary held a number of jobs throughout her life as a means of supporting her family and ensuring that we were always fed, clothed, and safe.  She enjoyed working as a cosmetologist for over 10 years and styling her clients, friends, and family members. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where she was a devout Catholic, expressing her faith daily to others through the ministry of prayer and music, particularly while singing with full voice in the St. Anthony’s Portuguese Choir.  She loved reading and Portuguese soap operas, and held a fondness for jewelry, shopping, socializing, and looking glamorous.  The Monterey Coast was a favorite destination throughout her life and we affectionately remember those trips with her.  At home she was an avid gardener and doted over her beloved dog Gigi and cared for and nurtured her many feline companions.  She gathered and enjoyed a large network of friends from whom she received love and encouragement as she battled her illness.

Mary exited this life in the same manner in which she lived it: with courage, strength, humor, and dignity.   She enriched our lives and our memories, and we celebrate her peace and eternal rest.

Mrs. DaRosa’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home of Manteca. A Rosary and Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Monday, May 17, 2010 beginning at 11 a.m.  Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary DaRosa Grandchildren Scholarship Trust or to Hospice of San Joaquin 3888 Pacific Ave. Stockton , California (in Memory of Mary DaRosa).  An on-line guest book is available at www.plfryandson.com
