Mary Kinnear-Nahavandi passed away after a yearlong battle with a very aggressive cancer on Sunday, January 27, 2019. She died peacefully surrounded by her family and friends. She was 74.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Mary immigrated to the United States in 1965 at the age of 21 and became a citizen of this country she loved in 1976. During her life, Mary was the President of the Women’s Guild of Holy Spirit School, head of the Girls CYO sports program for many years, and President of the Washington Hospital Employee’s Association. She was very active in the Washington Hospital Foundation, the Manteca Food Bank and various other charities.

Mary was a lifelong, die hard, San Francisco 49er fan/season ticket holder and Giants fan. She loved going to the games with her daughter and grandchildren and football games will not be the same without her. She loved reading, music, traveling, Doritos, tacos, a glass of wine and spending time with her family and friends.

She retired from Washington Hospital after over 30 years, as the BA for the Director of OB, pediatrics, and ER. Over the course of those 30 plus years, she made many, many good friends that she loved dearly.

Mary was well known for her quick wit, sense of humor, and infectious laugh. She was kind, loving, generous, a great wife, mother and even better grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all her family, friends and those who loved her. If you met her, you loved her. How could you not?

She is survived by her husband, Saeid Nahavandi, her daughter, Shirley Boyd, (Steven Boyd), son Patrick Kinnear, her grandchildren Marissa Boyd (Angelo Basso), Colin Boyd (Athena Boyd), Hayley Boyd, Morgan Kinnear, great granddaughter Aurora Basso, her aunt Jeanette (George Freel),her dear friend Carol Silva and many cousins and friends in Scotland and England.

Special thanks to her friend and oncology nurse, Lenora Casey and Dr. Bangalore, for the care and kindness they showered her with during her illness and for the added year that she got to spend with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Annie McQuade.

Funeral service is at 9:30am on Saturday February 9th, 2019 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 15333 Woodard Rd., San Jose, CA, 95124, with immediate burial at Los Gatos Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society.
