Mary died suddenly in her Stockton home on May 23, 2014, with her daughter, Christine at her side. Mary was born in Manteca on Dec. 26, 1927, to Cristina and Frank Marchitelli at the Manteca Hospital on Lincoln Street. A graduate of MUHS class of ‘45 and Humphrey’s Business School in Stockton, she began her over 50 year career as a legal secretary with the firm of Neumiller, Dietz, Beardslee, & Shepherd at the age of 19. She worked with Dudley W. Shepherd until his career ended, then on to the other offices, ending with that of Irving M. Corren. She met her husband, Jim Bolles, at Humphrey’s and enjoyed over 50 years with him.
In her retirement she was a profile writer, collage artist, antique collector, painter, gardener, and traveler. She loved all things Italian, most especially the trip she took with her two sisters in the 1990’s to Italy. There she renewed her language skills with dozens of relatives who adore her. She was a member of Stockton Legal Secretaries all of her life, recently serving as President Emeritus, and advisor to the younger members.
Mary was a graceful 86 year old, who held life very dearly. Once she was your friend it was for life.
Mary leaves her beloved daughter, Christine Leach (Jim), grandson, Ross Andrew Whitton of Fresno; sisters, Croce Weil (Eli) of San Francisco, Antonette Poulos (Ted) of Manteca; nieces, Elisa Poulos (Michael Fox) of San Francisco, and Alexia Stormo (Owen) of Santa Barbara; grand nephews, Noah Poulos Fox of San Francisco, Jackson Theodore Stormo of Santa Barbara; and grand niece, Marina Poulos Fox of San Francisco.
Mary was a faithful member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. May her memory be eternal.
