Maurice “Augie” Agostini, 85, passed away on Jan.18, 2009 at Doctors Hospital of Manteca.

He was born Feb. 22, 1923 in Cologna, Italy

Mr. Agostini was a Manteca resident for 52 years.

He is survived by his wife Addie Agostini of 60 years; children Ron Agostini and wife, Laura,  Ripon; Maureen Moser and husband, John,  Elk Grove; and Jim Agostini and wife, Leslie,  Manteca; siblings Americo “Mac” Agostini and wife, Susie,  Oakdale; grandchildren Christopher Moser, Jennifer Moser,  Allison Moser,  Samantha Moser, Amanda Agostini, Chace Agostini, Chad Agostini, and Shelley Agostini.

Mr. Agostini was a veteran of U.S. Merchant Marines.

He retired in 1982 as a Supervisor for San Joaquin County Mosquito Abatement District.  He also farmed grapes, walnuts and almonds on his ranch. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where he was a catechism instructor and volunteered for the annual St. Anthony’s Harvest Festival.  He served as Past President of Y.M.I. of St. Patrick’s Church and was also a member of the “Holy Name” Society.  He had done fundraising for the Catholic Diocese of Stockton.  He was an inductee to the Manteca Hall of Fame in 2001.  He was a founding member and Past President of Spring Creek Golf and Country Club in Ripon.  He was Past President of the East Union High School Athletic Boosters.  He was a former Commissioner for the Manteca Parks and Recreation Department.  He was a longtime Manteca Pee-Wee, Little League and Babe Ruth League coach. The varsity baseball field at East Union High School was dedicated in his name in 1995.

Visitation is private. Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, Jan. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 E. North Street, Manteca. The final resting place is private at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
