Maurice Roos, of Ripon, California, went to be in the presence of the Lord on September 27, 2013, at the age of 85 from pneumonia. He had been residing at Valley Comfort, in Modesto, California, since July 8, 2013.

Maurice was born in Edgerton, Minnesota. The third child (of 12) and first son of Tom and Dora Roos. As a boy he helped his father with chores on the farm. At age16 he and his family moved to California, settling in Ripon.

He worked many different jobs including delivering milk, as a mechanic, and driving a hay truck. He always had a passion for driving. He was drafted into the army in November, 1950. He served as a mechanic in Seoul, Korea for the 17 months of service. While there, he was promoted four times because of his good work ethic. Upon being discharged he came back to Ripon and worked as a mechanic at Swier’s garage and then drove a hay truck for Bernie Wever. He also drove bus tours for Storer Transportation.

In 1952 he met Jeanette (Nettie) Beuving. They were married on February 12, 1954. They started their life together on a dairy Maurice and his brother Herb rented. Maurice was a dairymen and farmer in the River Junction area south of Manteca until retiring in 1990. They moved to Ripon in 1990.

Maurice was a member of Zion United Reformed Church, Ripon. He served as an Elder and Deacon several times in both First Christian Reformed Church, Ripon and Zion URC. He served on the School Board at Ripon Christian Schools in the late 70’s. Maurice served on the Bethany Home board for three years. He served as president on the Bret Hart Water District board and served several years as President of the Reclamation District in South Manteca.

He and Nettie volunteered for Red Cross, the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, and for Priceless Treasure Thrift Store in Modesto.

Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Dora Roos, his sister Judith Nación, and his first grandchild Janelle Krediet. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jeanette (Nettie), three daughters Maureen Whittaker of Modesto, Ranetta (Greg) Ericks of Concord, and Sharla (Randy) Radic of Ripon,11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and 10 surviving siblings. Services have been entrusted to Deegan –Ripon Memorial Chapel. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1st from 3pm to 7pm. Graveside services will be on Wednesday Oct 2nd at 10:30am at Ripon Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at Zion URC in Ripon.
