Melanie Roxanne Barnwell, 36, entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 in Manteca, California. She was born on June 2, 1972 in Stockton.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents; Modesta Cortez, and Mardonio Cortez as well as one niece Nicole Nino-Cortez.

Melanie is survived by her loving husband of 20 years Daniel Barnwell. Her beloved children are Zachary Barnwell, Dean Barnwell and Xena Barnwell. Her mother and father also survives her: Father Richard Cortez and Mother Wanda Rivera and her companion Robert Hanes. Her sisters are Cynthia “Kathy” Cortez and Diamond “Cori” Lopez. She is also survived by her grandmother Martha Rivera and her mother-in-law and father-in-law Dean and Doll Barnwell. Nieces and nephews are Christopher Lopez, Jesse Lopez, Tyler Martin, Unique Shepherd, Shawn Shepherd, and Stanzy Shepherd as well as many other extended family members who loved her dearly.

Melanie grew up in Manteca and attended Sequoia Elementary School as well as Manteca High School, graduating in 1990. After high school she attended Delta College in Stockton. She was employed at Manteca Unified School District in the Special Needs Department. Melanie loved music, and a great cup of coffee. She only had one hobby and that was shopping! Melanie was very outgoing and loved to socialize. She always took time out for “girl’s night out” she enjoyed a great movie and popcorn with her sisters and her childhood friend Tina. She loved her children dearly and cherished each special moment she spent with them. With her oldest Zachary she loved talking to him about his latest “girlfriends.” With her middle son Dean, who she was so very proud of she especially loved his athleticism in his soccer games. And with her little Princess Xena, biking riding with her gave her great joy and happiness. She looked forward to hugs from each of her children each and every day. She and her husband Danny loved going on Harley Rides together. Melanie will be deeply missed by everyone she touched throughout her life.  

Services for Mrs. Barnwell are being handled under the direction of P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday Jan. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Prayer services will be held immediately following her visitation at 1:00 PM at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. She will be laid to rest with her beloved Niece Nicole at Park View Cemetery.
