Phyllis Forkas of Manteca, CA died peacefully in her sleep early on Thanksgiving Day, 2013, in Davis, CA
Born in 1931 in Lynn, MA to Harold and Lillian Crowley, she attended high school in Schenectady, NY and Green Mountain College in Vermont.
She married James Forkas in 1953 and worked as a medical technologist at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.  She moved with her children to Manteca in 1961, designing and running the lab at the newly built Manteca Hospital for nine years before operating her own lab, Manteca Medical Lab, for 18 years. After a brief retirement, at age 62, Phyllis began a new career as a full time volunteer at St. Joesph’s Hospital Behavioral Health Center.  She worked over 10,000 hours, helping countless people and making many dear friends.
Phyllis had a special love for the two acre farm that she shared with her friend and companion Bev Wild for over 40 years.  Friends and family loved to gather in the beautiful park-like setting to enjoy laughter, cards and conversation with endless pots of coffee.
Phyllis is survived by Bev Wild and by her children; Jay and Cathy Forkas, and by her grandchildren; Ben and Kate Pearl.
May Phyllis always be remembered for her dry wit, generous spirit and wise council.  We’ll miss you!
