Richard Dennis Field, 81, entered into rest on March 1, 2010 in Manteca, California. He was born on November 21, 1928 in Oakland, California. Richard was a resident of Manteca for the past 42 years.

Mr. Field was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years, Betty Field of Manteca. His loving daughters are Deborah Lynn Abbott and husband (John) of Susanville and Colleen Denise Lockhart of Manteca. He was blessed by 4 grandchildren; Katelyn Lourene Lockhart, Joshua William Abbott, Erin Katherine Messer, and Rebecca Alison Fimbrez as well as 2 great-grandchildren Hunter Ryan Abbott and Avalon Bel Messer. In addition Richard was survived by one sister, Margaret “Peggy” David of Oroville.

Richard was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for the past 30 years. While attending St. Paul’s Richard and his wife were involved with various ministries such as the Wrangler group which was a social club for church members and Vestry Committee. Richard was also a member of the Railroad Union “I.A. of M.” He was an avid football fan enjoying every televised 49er game. He was extremely well known for his wonderful barbecue techniques. He loved being social with family and friends, always looking for a great conversation. In his younger years Richard loved to dance, camp, go on cruises as well as travel in his R.V. with family and friends. Richard will be remembered as a happy man who was a good neighbor, loving husband, excellent father, an amazing grandfather and wonderful grandfather. He will be missed.

Mr. Field’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry Funeral Home of Manteca. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday March 5, 2010 at 1 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Chapel 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. He will be laid to rest privately at East Union Cemetery.
