Richard (Dick) Swift, age 81 entered into rest on October 11th 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by his family.  He was born in Oakland, CA on January 24th, 1932.  He moved to Manteca before the age of 1 where he had resided for over 80 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Swift, Minnie Jensen and step father Oscar Jensen, as well as brothers Milton Huth and Clyde Huth.
   He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Joyce Swift.  He is survived by his children Richard Swift Jr. and Roberta of Eureka, CA, Dave Swift and Jeanne, Doug Swift and Susan, Darren Swift and Donna, Kelly Emerson and Danny, all of Manteca.  Ten grandchildren, Lisa Fannin, Brian Swift, Ryan Swift, Michael Swift, Michelle Tolbert, Stephanie Swift, Marshall Swift, Brock Swift, Kelsey Emerson and Kyle Emerson.  Two step granddaughters, Nichole Robinson and Michelle Doan.  Five great grandchildren, Haylee Fannin, Ally Fannin, Shyanne Swift, Wyatt Swift and Aleira Swift.
   He was a truck driver for over 40 years.  He attended local grammar schools and graduated from Manteca High School in 1949.  There he played on the varsity Championship football team where he was awarded the “Dick Swift Perpetual Trophy” for setting a record for most PAT’s (extra points).  For this he earned the nickname “The Toe”.
   There will be a celebration of life in his honor on Sunday, November 3rd at 12:30pm at Chez Shari, 305 N. Union Rd., Manteca, CA.
   Remembrances can be made in his name to The Manteca Historical Society.
