Richard Max Buchanan, 79, entered into rest on October 26, 2012 in Manteca, Ca. He was born on April 23, 1933 in Provo, Utah. He is preceded in death by his daughter Debra, his sister Colleen and his parents German Junior (June) Buchanan and Enna Marie Westover Buchanan.

 Mr. Buchanan is survived by his three children; Linda Redwood, Karen Engebretsen and David Buchanan. He has two surviving siblings; Donald Buchanan of Traverse City, Michigan and Dorothy Bird of Mesa, Arizona. His nieces and nephews are: Dawn, Dianne (Larry), Marilyn (Joe), Alan, and Paul (Tina). He has one grandchild and eight grandnieces and nephews.

 Richard was a resident of Manteca for 10 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Northland Rd. Ward) He was also a member of the Sierra Club – Berkeley. After high school Richard received his Bachelor of Science degree in Math at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Richard began his career working for many years in sales; he eventually became self employed working in the catering and tourism industry for over 20 years. Throughout his career he worked for UC Berkeley sororities as a chef and owned “Catering for the Cognoscenti” in Berkeley. Richard was a world traveler as he enjoyed traveling with his many friends with the Sierra Club. 

P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Buchanan family. A memorial service will be on Monday October 29, 2012 at 4 p.m. held at P.L. Fry & Son 290 N. Union Rd. Manteca, Ca.
