Born in Stockton, on March 11, 1949, Richard Dean Mello passed away surrounded by family and friends on May 7, 2009, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer.

He is preceded in death by his sister Irene and his father, Frank M. Mello, Sr.

Rick is survived by his wife Anna, daughter Allison, mother Margaret E. Mello, brother Frank M. Mello, Jr. and wife Robin, sister Kathleen, long-time friend and caregiver, Tom Flammini and numerous nieces and nephews.   

Rick dedicated his life to the education of children in the Manteca Unified School District. In his 36 years of service as a teacher, mentor and school administrator he set a high bar for excellence. He truly enjoyed working with the students, faculty, staff and parents of Shasta School where he was principal for the past 22 years in Manteca.

P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home is handling Mr. Mello’s arrangements. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10, 1 to 5 p.m., at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. A Rosary Mass will be held on Monday, May 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 505 E. North St. Manteca. He will be laid to rest privately at St. John’s Catholic Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society 1604 Ford Ave. Modesto, Ca 95350.
