Richard R. Ashby was welcomed into the Lord’s Grace on Tues., Sept. 13, 2011, he was 57 years old. A long time resident of Manteca, he lived the past 7 years at the San Joaquin River Club in Tracy.
Rick or Rich, as he was known by most – had a love for the great outdoors. Whether it would be camping, hunting, or his favorite past time – fishing, friends could often find him near many of the lakes and rivers in search of fish.
He was a supporter of youth programs volunteering to coach his children’s teams both in MASL and Northgate Little League as they grew up. East Union Choir events and cross country matches were also on his volunteer list. He was also a member of the Truevine Fellowship in Tracy.
He is survived by his children, Melanee Scarborough of Manteca, Matthew Scarborough, United States Army, Monica Ashby of Tracy, and Richard Ashby II of Manteca. He has four grandchildren; Logan Holcomb, Kaylee Bartholomew, Shiloh Bartholomew of Tracy and Blake Bartholomew (who will be born very soon). He is also survived by two sisters Phyllis Medina and Shirley Rodrigues also of Tracy, countless nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many other children that he chose to be a part of their lives and thought of him as “dad.” He will be missed by many for his strong spirit, his wit and the way he made people laugh. It was his wishes to be cremated and his final arrangements have been handled by PL Fry and Sons of Manteca. A Celebration of Life will be held at the San Joaquin River Club main club house on Fri., Sept. 30, at 1 p.m., 30000 Kasson Rd., Tracy, CA.
