Rona Hathaway passed away at home, surrounded by her family, after a four year battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her wife, Deborah Woods; her father, David Hathaway; two sisters, Renee Bernardy and Robin DeFehr; three daughters, Crystal Woods, Mandy Treat and Nicole Sloan; four nephews, Dakota Bernardy, Austin Bernardy, James DeFehr, and Braden Wheeler; two nieces, Amoreena Bernardy and Jeris DeFehr; and nine grandchildren, Tierra Morales, Zachary Tweedie, Austin Kivilahti, Alexis Treat, Seth Santa Cruz, Aiden Santa Cruz, Joshua Snyder, Haylee Snyder, and Elijah Stafford. Rona is preceded into death by her mother, Ellen Hathaway;her grandmothers, Betty Renteria and Marjorie Hathaway; her grandfathers, James Welch and Glenn Hathaway; and her aunt, Glenda Larabee. She goes home now to be free of pain and join her long missed loved ones.

Rona received her bachelor of science degree in Vocational Education Studies from Southern Illinois University. Rona was a proud retired Navy Petty Officer after 17 years of service. Rona enjoyed being a part of the Armed Forces Softball Team for many years and competed in the Armed Forces World Series.  She lived the past six years with her family in Manteca. The family would like to thank all the caregivers and doctors who fought alongside Rona during her heroic battle.

Anyone who knew Rona is better for it, her life inspired us to love, her death inspires us to live.

A memorial service will be held on August 26, 2011 at 2pm, Parkview Funeral Home, 3661 E. French Camp Road, Manteca, CA 95336. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Rona’s name.
