Sanford “Sandy” Hedegard, 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 20, 2018 in Manteca, CA. Sandy was born on July 5, 1920 to the late Soren and Anna Hedegard in Campbell, California. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julie. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra and (the late J.D.) Mitchell of Modesto, Stan and (the late Debbie) Hedegard of Ventura, Tom (Diane) Hedegard of Manteca and Cindy Hedegard of Roseville. He was preceded in death by his sons, Bill Platt, Bob Platt and Carl Hedegard. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Brad Mitchell, Danielle Weatherbie, Thomas R. Hedegard, Tara Schlecht, Lacey Bufford, Desiree Platt, Tori Hedegard, Carly Hedegard and Billy Hedegard, as well as seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sandy was a resident of Manteca for 73 years. Sandy was a self employed dairyman and farmer for over 50 years. Prior to that, he attended the University of California at Davis where he played basketball and studied animal husbandry. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Sandy was an avid stamp collector. He loved gardening, cooking and canning. Sandy also enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing and golfing. He achieved two hole-in-ones while on the golf course in his 80’s! Sandy will be missed by all who knew him. P.L. Fry & Son is honored to be serving the Hedegard Family. A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the P.L. Fry & Son Chapel 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca, CA. Burial will follow at Park View Cemetery.
