Sherman “Bud” Renfro, 80, passed away suddenly on July 5, 2009 with his family by his side. A resident of Manteca for nearly 47 years, he was born April 9, 1929 in Lincoln, Arkansas, to the late Homer & Beulah Renfro. He worked for Fiberboard Paper Co. in Stockton for over 35 years before retiring in 1989.

He leaves behind his loving companion of 11 years, Marianne Price of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; children Carla Kilpatrick & husband Mike of Groveland, Andrew Renfro of Sacramento, and Sharon Shriver of Manteca; siblings Evelyn Rice & husband Kenneth of Cottonwood, Jessie Affholter of Modesto, Betty May of Idaho, and Carl Renfro of Modesto; six grandchildren, Kelly, Joni, Mikal, Nicole, Amber and Lacey; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A hardworking man with great morals, Sherman was a wonderful grandpa and dedicated family man. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others in need. He cherished many things in life, whether it was traveling, tending to his yard that he mowed twice a week or his once a year trip to Las Vegas where he attended the NASCAR race to cheer on his hometown favorite Mark Martin. The excitement of the sport inspired him to build a custom race motor for his friend, Ken’s stock car.

One of his greatest joys in life was cruising in his 1927 Wide T. He traveled throughout California, Oregon, and Nevada entering his hot rod into several car shows. He has attended Hot August Nights in Reno every year since it began back in 1986. He has won numerous awards over the years including Best in Show many times; the last award that he would win came just days before his passing. He won 1st place in the Manteca 4th of July parade.

Sherman was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Opal Fay Renfro, son Roger D. Renfro, son-in-law Wendell Shriver, brother Rosco Renfro and twin sisters Arlene Hinkle and Marlene Wanfler.
