Shirley Jean Schemper, at the age of 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 1, 2024, surrounded by her children.
She had a wonderful faith in Jesus, and brought joy to all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Shirley was born on December 18, 1936 in Ripon, California, to parents Philip and Dora Vrieling. Raised in Ripon, she attended school in a two-room schoolhouse through 8th grade, graduated from Ripon High School and was married to her high school sweetheart, Loren Schemper, for 64 years until Loren passed away in 2018.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters, Shirley is survived by her brother; Ken (Paulette) Vrieling, her four children, Darlene (Gary) Fox, Linda (Dennis) Doud, Bud (Jill) Schemper, and Cheryl (Mike) Ramey; ten grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and worked for Ripon Unified School District as a cafeteria and teacher’s assistant. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Reformed Church where she and Loren were members of Christian Home builders through which they made lifelong friends. She enjoyed camping, boating, skiing, golfing, playing card games, vacationing with family and friends, outings with her girlfriends, and visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a key part of our lives and will be deeply missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at the Ripon Cemetery on December 9, at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Church in Ripon. The family would like to acknowledge the staff and nurses at Doctors Medical Center and Community Hospice for the compassionate care she received in her final hours.
