Born in Abbenes, Haarlemermeer, the Netherlands, the twelfth of thirteen children, the family moved to Ripon in 1948. Sam farmed for over 60 years, focusing on almonds and grapes. A very hard worker, Sam had a soft spot for his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Jane of 44 years, son, Tim (Arlene) Weststeyn of Salida, his daughter Heide (Justin) Pedrioli of Ripon, and four grandchildren, Tyler, Emilia, Naomi, and Max.

He leaves behind his sister Pearl Dorrepaal of Ripon, his brother John (Catharina) Weststeyn of Wheatland, his sister Wilma Van de Pol of Escalon, his brother Jake (Betsy) Weststeyn of Manteca, his brother Pete (Frieda) Weststeyn of Chino, and his sister Margaret (Les) Eastburg of Ripon.

Sam was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Eimbertus and Josina, his sisters Annie den Butter, Elizabeth Van Klaveren, and Helen Van Klaveren; and his brothers Joe Weststeyn, Bastiaan Weststeyn, and Gerard Weststeyn.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, January 11, 2013, at First Christian Reformed Church in Ripon, 305 Boesch Dr, Ripon. Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel is in charge of services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Ripon Christian Schools, 435 N. Maple Ave, Ripon, CA 95366 or Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
