Steve Joseph Souza

 Steve Joseph Souza, age 69, passed away in the loving care of his wife and in the comfort of his own home on November 10, 2015.  His children were fortunate to spend time with him in his
final week, as were other close family members and friends. 
   Steve is survived by his loving wife, Anita Souza of Modesto, California and by his sister, Evea (Eric) Newsom of Reston, Virginia.  He leaves behind two sons, Julio Souza and Mario (Vanessa) Souza , and two daughters,  Julieanne (Michael) Dowd and Annette Souza, two granddaughters, Isabella Dowd,
Nicoletta Dowd, and his grandson Joaquin Souza, also many nieces and nephews from California, Florida, and Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe P. Souza, Mary O. Souza, and his brother, Michael Souza.
   Steve was an alumni from the University of San Francisco with a Doctorate in Education and a retired
resource teacher from East Union High School.  Steve was also a local farmer
who enjoyed driving his tractor and having his morning cup of coffee from a local diner.  He enjoyed fishing, opened his doors to those in need, and took great pride in providing for his family. Steve’s humor and playful personality sustained him throughout his life.  He was engaging and conversant, and a man of high integrity.  He is deeply missed and sincerely loved.
   Family and friends are encouraged to attend a memorial mass.  Mass will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 709 J Street, in Modesto, CA, at
10 a.m. 
   The family requests that charitable donations be made in Steve’s honor  in lieu of flowers  to St. Jude’s  Children’s Hospital.
