Steven Allen Mavis, “Steve”, died unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Manteca, California, at the age of 64.
   Steve is survived by his mother Frances Delores (Dee) Sciarroni, of Manteca, his son Michael Mavis of Tracy, daughter Maci Mavis of Manteca, his two grandchildren Robert and Maddy Mavis of Tracy; his siblings, Marylou Calcagno of Los Banos, Lori Cotten of Lodi, David Mavis of Livermore, Patrick Mavis of Visalia, and Julie Calcagno of Manteca.       
   He is preceded in death by his father Clayton Mavis, his brother James Mavis, and his son Randy Mavis.
   Steve was born on January 15, 1954 in Muskegon, Michigan. He graduated from Granada High School in Livermore, California in 1972.
   Steve was always known for his honesty. We don’t believe under any circumstances, would he not tell the truth. He worked many jobs as a young boy. After leaving college to got married, he became an auto mechanic. One day he took out all his retirement money and savings and went back to school to become a computer programmer. He later moved to Michigan to care for his grandfather and worked at Harbor Industries where he met and made lifelong friends. It was his favorite place to work of his career. He worked in that field in Michigan until he was forced to retire in 2015.
   Steve was born with a congenital heart defect and lived with that his entire life. He did not let that stop him from having a full and active life. Steve was an accomplished athlete in school, a stand out pitcher and golfer. He pursued golf and developed a lifelong passion for the sport. Steve loved puzzles and could solve anything put in front of him. A Rubik’s cube didn’t stand a chance!
Steve was a kind, easy going person who loved life and had a great sense of humor. He valued his family above all. He was a devoted father and for sure, the love of his children and grandchildren was the number one priority with him. The world needs more people like him.
   A memorial is scheduled for Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Chapel, in Manteca, California. A reception will follow at Chez Shari Banquet Facility, located at the Manteca Golf Course. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Steve’s life.
   In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association. He will be laid to rest in Livermore, California alongside his brother, father, and son.
