On July 31, 2014, Sylvia (Louie) Lee passed away. Sylvia Lee was the daughter of the late Henry and Betty Louie. She was born in Stockton, California on September 4, 1921. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1939 and attended classes at Stockton College.
When WWII broke out, Sylvia began her career at Bravo and McKeegan Men’s Store in Stockton and went on to Smith and Lang Department Store. She went from sales clerk to window display artist. Prior to this time, this work was limited to men, but with the onset of WWII, she was able to fill these positions.
Sylvia married the late Stanley C. Lee in 1947 and moved from Stockton to Manteca in 1966. Sylvia became an active member of the Shasta and Manteca High PTA/PTSA for many years, long after her last child had graduated from the public school system. She worked as a sales clerk at the Manteca Drug Store alongside her husband, until they both retired in 1984.
Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, she was active in the Manteca Quilters’ Guild. She travelled frequently with her husband visiting Asia, the USA and especially the Boston area.
Sylvia leaves behind her daughter and son, Susan and Stuart of Manteca and daughter Dr. Stephanie Lee (Dr. Robert Peterfreund) of Newton, MA and two grandsons, Dr. Gregory Peterfreund and Matthew Peterfreund.
