Thelma Jean Chitwood passed away peacefully on January 17 in Modesto at the age of 88.  Jean was born on December 10, 1931 in Winchester, Tennessee to parents Ed and Hazel Majors.  Jean is a long time resident of Ripon.
   Jean was a member for many years of the Women’s Federated Club, she also was a bridge master and belonged to a bridge club for several years.  She was a lifelong Methodist and a dedicated teacher for over 40 years.  Jean enjoyed traveling, reading, doing crosswords, swans and anything purple.  She will be remembered as a true sweet southern lady.  Above all else, Jean loved her family.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.
   Jean leaves behind her children, Doug Chitwood (Cami), Greg Chitwood (Tari) and Laura Chitwood, her grandchildren, Shalene Scherr, Cassie Pellerin and Taylor Bannemer along with her two great grandchildren, Layla and Aria Scherr.  Jean also leaves behind her siblings, Terry Majors and Valita Schut.  
   Jean is preceded in death by her husband, William Chitwood and her siblings, Tom Majors, Glen Majors, Ronnie Majors and Danny Majors.
   Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Chitwood family.  A chapel service is scheduled for Monday, January 27, at
1 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel.
