Tillie Richter, 84, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009 in Oldtown, Idaho. She was born May 16, 1925 in Karlsruhe, North Dakota to the late Steve and Helena Engelhardt.
In her early years, before becoming Mrs. Richter, she taught school at a small one room school in North Dakota.
A resident of Manteca for nearly 45 years, living in the same house that her and her husband, Joe Richter bought in 1964. She fondly called this home until last year when her health started to decline, she then moved to Idaho to be with her daughter Helen, who lovingly cared for her.
Mrs. Richter a devout catholic was a member of the Legion of Mary and a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church for many years. She leaves behind her four remarkable children; sons, Gabe Richter and wife, Terry of Blanchard, ID, Francis Richter of Anchor Point, AK, Joe Richter and wife, Joyce of Manteca and daughter, Helen Moraga and husband, John of Oldtown, ID; four amazing grandchildren, Lisa Munoz and husband, Leon of Manteca, Mike Richter and wife, Lora of Ripon, Becky Scoby and husband, Jason of Jackson, MS, and Ann Thur of Manteca; seven precious great grandchildren, Megan Munoz, Matthew Munoz, Elizabeth Richter, Hayden Richter, Marilyn Scoby, Kyle Scoby, and Chloe Thur; two wonderful sisters; Teresa Martin and Isabell Owan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tillie was a fun outgoing woman with a heart of gold. She never knew a stranger because once talking with her you’d instantly became a friend. She treasured life and knew just how precious it really is. As a three time cancer survivor, she was always watching over her family and friends making sure they were all well cared for. She was an outstanding cook; if she was in the kitchen cooking it was almost certain she was making one of her wonderful German dishes. She loved traveling and always looked forward to her trips to Alaska to visit her son. She also enjoyed gardening, reading and playing pinochle. For a countless number of years she has gather with her family, friends and neighbors for friendly card games.
Tillie was truly an amazing woman and a fighter to the end. She will be forever loved and cherished by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 37 years, Joe Richter, whom passed away in January 1983.
Family and friends are invited to her visitation on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 7 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, a Vigil will immediately follow at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held the following day, Thursday, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 505 East North Street. She will be laid to rest with her husband at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Escalon. Memorial contributions can be made in Tillie’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
