Violet Fern Freeman passed away unexpectedly on October 10, 2018 in Manteca.  She  was born to Betty and Oliver Buchanan in French Camp on February 26, 1950.

Violet was a lifelong resident of Lathrop, Stockton and Manteca.  She graduated from Manteca High, class of 1967, and recently attended her 50th reunion.  Family and church were the cornerstones of Violet’s life.

Violet held many different jobs throughout her life, including working at her children school, Lathrop Elementary, and most recently at the San Joaquin County Tax Assessor’s office from where she retired a few years ago.

Violet was married to the love of her life, Mac Freeman when she was 17.  She accomplished one of her life-long goals when they celebrated 50 years of marriage with lots of family and friends last December.  Violet and Mac loved going to Disneyland together, which they did often and was happy to be able to go with each of her grandchildren to that happy place.  She was involved throughout her children lives, supporting and cheering on each of her three children, which then extended to her grand- children. Violet delighted in her many grandchildren, always available to babysit, attend school functions or drive to school.  Family was one of the most important parts of  her life.

Church was also so very important to her.  She and Mac raised their children in church and were instrumental in the construction of Lathrop Brethren Church, now Grace Community, which they attended regularly.  Many happy memories were found at Camp Berea, the church camp in Twain Harte where Violet and Mac volunteered in the summers when their children where growing up.

Violet was preceded in death by her wonderful mother, Betty Lou (Moore) Mitchell and father, Oliver Daniel Buchanan.  She will be greatly missed by her husband, Mac as well as their three children, Aaron (Amy) Freeman of Manteca, Jason (Sawndella) Freeman of Copperopolis and Dena (Brent) Ugalde of Modesto.  She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Jaycob, Sierra, Sklyer, Brooke, Cooper, William, Jack, Chanel, Alexander and Chloe.  Violet will be missed by her sister, Marsha ( Milt) Buchanan and brothers Logan and Loren Buchanan, sister -in-heart, Debbie (Dan) Zylla, as well as many other loved family members.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 18, at Grace Community Church, 11:00 a.m., 850 J Street, Lathrop, CA   Memorial donations may be made to Grace Community Church.
