Virginia Dorothy Mattos, 93, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013. An 80 year resident of Tracy, she was born in Hollister, CA on April 5, 1919 to the late Manuel and Maria Pacheco. 

A member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Mrs. Mattos was a homemaker who loved caring and cooking for her family. In her earlier years she and her husband John enjoyed traveling and visiting the Azores. Together they also served on the IPFES Portuguese Society board of directors for many years. 

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Eleanor Ramos of Manteca, and Darlene Mattos of Tracy. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many extended family members. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John S. Mattos, Jr.; son, John J. Mattos; daughter, Virginia D. Diamante; her parents and seven siblings. 

Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, is honored to serve the Mattos family. Visitation will be held in the chapel on Monday, March 18th, beginning at 2pm with a Rosary at 7pm. 

A Mass of Christian burial will follow on Tuesday, March 19th, 10:30 am at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 Eaton Avenue. She will be laid to rest at Tracy Public Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Tracy Animal Shelter, Hospice of San Joaquin or St. Bernard’s Building Fund.

The Family would also like to thank Hospice of San Joaquin, New Hope Acute Care Center, Dr. J. Patel, Dr. I. Pulliam and all his staff for all of their support, love and exceptional care of their beloved mother Virginia throughout the years.
