Virginia Burroughs went to her heavenly home on Aug. 16, 2009.  

She was 84 years old. Prior to entering English Oaks Nursing Home in Modesto in May 2009, Virginia lived at Standiford Place Retirement Center in Modesto for 4 years.  She lived in Manteca from 1978 to 2005, where was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. At St. Paul’s she was in charge of the nursery and was the church wedding coordinator for many years.  Virginia was born in Gadsden, Alabama to Joseph L. and Helen Vance. She lived there until 1978. She was married to W. E. “Bob” Burroughs from February 7, 1946 until his death in 1985.

She is survived by her brother, Bill Vance, of Florence, Alabama; three sons Jerry W. Burroughs (and daughter-in-law Wilma), of Lake Park, Georgia, Ed Burroughs (and daughter-in-law Norma), of Modesto and Tim Burroughs of Modesto. Grandchildren include Stephanie (Burroughs) Mann, of Valdosta, Georgia, Joy (Burroughs) Martinez, of Stockton, California, Mary Burroughs, of South Pasadena, California, Breanna Burroughs of Manteca, Amahnda Burroughs of Manteca, and Taylor Burroughs of Manteca. Her great-grandchildren are Jayden Martinez and Ahrianna Martinez of Stockton, California. Private burial will be on Thursday, Aug. 20, at Park View Cemetery in French Camp.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, at the corner of Powers and E. North Street, Manteca.  A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, Ca 95356.
