Vivian Rea Lasiter

Vivian Rea Lasiter, 95, passed away on Wednesday at Bethany Home in Ripon. 

She was born in Hughson to parents Ethel and Paul Benedix.  She graduated from Stockton High School in 1931.

Vivian married Walter Carl Rea in 1940, and they made their home on her grandfather Moore’s ranch on Wagner Road in the River District in rural Ripon.  Eventually they purchased a home on Acacia Street in Ripon, and Walter took a job with the Post Office.  After Walter’s passing in 1964, Mrs. Rea enrolled in San Joaquin Delta College, where she earned her degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  In 1970, she married George Lasiter, and they settled in Pioneer for 25 years. 

Mr. Lasiter passed away in 1997. She enjoyed camping, knitting, crossword puzzles, and was especially known for her good cooking. Vivian is survived by her grandchildren, Julie De Araujo and Craig De Jong of Ripon, Janelle Gallagher of Morgan Hill, and her son-in-law, Ken De Jong of Palm Desert.  She also leaves eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Della Goertz of Napa.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret De Jong, in 2005.  

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, 11 a.m., at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel, 111 S. Palm Ave., Ripon.  Private inurnment will take place at Park View Cemetary. Remembrances may be made to Bethany Home Foundation, 930 W. Main Street, Ripon, CA, 95366.
