Warren Randall Atherton, 91, passed away at home on March 27, 2016. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, at10 am  at Park View Funeral Home in Manteca.
  Warren was born in 1924 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from George Washington High School and when drafted in 1943, he chose the Navy. After training, he worked as a mechanic on the USS Querinis ARL39 in the Atlantic. He was discharged in 1946 but was called back in 1951 to serve aboard the USS Horace A. Bass APD124 in the Pacific.
   In 1960, Warren married Hattie Sue and their union produced their son, Warren
David. After residing in Southern California for many years, he and his “bride”, as he would often call her, moved to Manteca in 2011.
   Warren’s interests included family, amateur radio, boating, gardening, and
motorcycles. He was proud to have served his country twice during wartime and enjoyed associating with other veterans. He was also known for his sense of humor and often spoke the phrase “nuts about you” while handing out peanuts.
   Warren is survived by his wife, Hattie Sue; son, Warren David; daughter-in-law,
Deborah; sister, Maryalice; and several nieces and nephews.
