William E. “Bill” Slack, 64, passed away Jan. 20, 2009 in Hughson.

He was born  Jan. 29, 1944, in Canandaigua, New York. He has resided in Manteca for five years and previously in San Jose for 30 years.

Bill is survived by Charlene Slack, his wife of 37 years; children Jacob C. Slack-Sanchez of Corcoran; siblings Stephen Slack of North Carolina and Jeanne Caward of New York; good friends Donald and Sylvia Sanchez and family of Manteca and John Parker of Manteca; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michal and Christine Conaway of Lathrop; and niece Rachel DeLong of Lathrop.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Bill retired after 27 years as a metal fabricator for Northrup Grumman in Sunnyvale. He enjoyed traveling and the outdoors.  He was an avid NASCAR fan.  The family said, “He was loved by everyone who knew him.”

Memorial Mass is Thursday, Feb, 5, at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 E. North Street, Manteca.

Burial is private.

In lieu of flowers, remembrance may be sent to American Cancer Society, 207 E. Alpine Ave., Stockton, CA. 95204.  Arrangements are under the direction of P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca.
