William Melis entered eternal rest on February 9, 2009 in Manteca, California.

He was born on February 21, 1928, the son of Lucia Maria Van Der Ven and Johannes Lucas Melis, in Rotterdam, Holland.  He attended Catholic primary school and Jesuit high school in Amsterdam, Holland.  He survived the hunger winter during World War II by the generosity of the Dutch people and the Jesuit community.  He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from a university in Holland.

He joins parents in heaven along with his beloved sister Reitje and brother Kees.

He graduated from Louisiana State University where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.  

He married Leda Medeiros in 1955. They had 5 children, Lucy, Linda Maureen, William and Robert.  They divorced in 1967. He later married Lily Mae Rogers, and they were married for 10 years.

William had a very successful business; he was President and CEO of Pielkenroad Separator Co. and Pacesetter Separator Co., both in the oil and water separation business.  He served clients around the world.  He easily made friends, and was loved by many.

His later years he lived in Manteca and resided in Manteca Care and Rehab for the last 2 years.  Family expresses appreciation to Ms. Karen Meyer, his special friend of many years.  Also, appreciation is extended to the staff of Manteca Care and Rehab.

William is survived by his children, grandchildren and numerous family members living around the world.  William will be remembered for his strong work ethic and engineering ability, his generosity, and his passion for life.  He was loved, and will be missed.

Mr. Melis’ arrangements are being handled by P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home.  

Visitation will be held at P.L. Fry and Son today from noon to 3 p.m. at 290 N Union Road, Manteca.  Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. also at P.L. Fry and Son.  Burial will be at East Union Cemetery.
