Editor, Manteca Bulletin:

For the past fourteen years, the firefighters in our community have hosted a ‘Tip a Firefighter’ event at the local Applebee’s Restaurant in Manteca, choosing Give Every Child a Chance as their proud recipient. This year, on Aug. 19 they once again showed their support, and the Tip a Firefighter event brought in $1677.85 to help support the free mentor/tutoring programs offered by Give Every Child a Chance. The generosity of Manteca’s bravest and the community, in such tough economic times, is overwhelming.

As always, it was an evening of fantastic food, unbelievable service and incredible fun; all provided by Manteca’s Bravest, the Firefighters. The participating firefighter; as well as the working waiters and waitresses; were amazing. They took our orders efficiently and with huge smiles. They made sure we received our beverages quickly and when the meals were ready, the firefighter delivered the food. They flirted, listened, and simply gave the impression they were having a wonderful time, serving us. Of course, the waiters and waitresses on Applebee’s staff were similarly as wonderful and supportive of this event.

In appreciation of the good time they experienced at Applebee’s, customers very generously made a donation in the boot the firefighter was holding at the door.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Give Every Child a Chance, and all the children who will benefit from this contribution to our program, I want to thank the Firefighters, Chief Waters, Battalion Chief Davis, Battalion Chief Shipherd, Engineer Wes Chamberlain (organizer), All of the on duty crews that came with the fire engines and truck, the Firefighter Reserves, the off duty firefighters and Applebee’s Manager for arranging and working this tremendous fundraiser, and the waiters and waitresses at Applebee’s for their generous contribution to our program. Additionally I want to thank this wonderfully generous community for understanding the importance of the programs Give Every Child a Chance offers and for their continual support.
