Appreciates effort with Lathrops inaugural Relay for Life event

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
I am writing in regards to the Relay for Life event held at Lathrop High School during the last weekend in August.  It was a tremendous first time turnout.  Over $22,000 was raised and almost 30 teams joined the effort.  Despite the heat, all participants had a great time and were moved by the proceedings.

Many people worked behind the scenes and those people should be recognized.   Unfortunately, some were not mentioned in the follow up news articles so I am asking that they be mentioned now.  The co-chairs of the event, Dan MacNeilage and Steve Dresser and team captain coordinator, Cheryl Airrington, worked long hours and dedicated numerous days to the organization.  Committee members Karen Dell’Osso (logistics), Chip DeVito (entertainment), Melissa MacNeilage (luminaria) and Jenna Bernier (ACS staff partner) helped make the event a success.

In addition, the team with the largest amount of donations was Lathrop Sunrise Rotary.  Rotary was not mentioned in the follow up article but they brought in the highest dollar amount for any participating team.  Given that both Steve Dresser and Cheryl Airrington are members of Lathrop Sunrise, Rotary had a major impact on this event and we are proud to report that over 90% of our members directly participated in the Relay.  In fact, almost 1/3rd of all the funds raised were raised by Rotarians or their family members who walked for other teams.  Rotary really does make a big difference in our community and we are very proud of our efforts.
