Editor, Manteca Bulletin
Recently we had a true gentleman retire from public life, John Harris. A proud graduate of Manteca High School and Sacramento State College, John has served as a San Joaquin County Probation Officer, Manteca Unified Board of Trustees, Manteca City Council Member and various boards of directors, commissions and committees.
John was a founding member of many organizations and services including the highly successful Valley Community Counseling Program, he has also been inducted into the Manteca Hall of Fame and the Manteca High Hall of Fame, to name a few. John never looked for a pat on the back, rewards or recognition, he simply did his job to make the greater Manteca community a better place to work, live and raise our children.
In most cases, every decision he had to make as an elected official would make some people unhappy, after all there are two sides to every issue. John never took these decisions lightly, he researched each issue and ultimately did what he felt was in the best interest of those that he represented. John loves this community, the people and giving back through service. He has maintained a high standard of conduct, character and ethics. John, thank you for your time, effort and commitment to this community we call home. I hope you and your beautiful wife Kay enjoy your time together whether it is traveling, gardening or just enjoying each other’s company, you have certainly deserved it.
