Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
“Auntie, I want to go thank the teacher who is doing the raising money to fight my daddy’s cancer. I want to shake her hand.” These heartfelt words were uttered my 8 year old nephew, after learning about the fundraiser Stella Brockman Elementary School held in the month of March.

I personally appreciate my own truly amazing sixth grade students in room 48; these 11 and 12 year old students met our classroom challenge of rising over $300 in one week. As their teacher, and personally, as a sister watching my own brother suffering from incurable bone cancer, I want to publicly thank my students and my school for participating in the school-wide fundraiser for the Leukemia (Bone/Blood) Cancer Society.

As I stated earlier, this was a school-wide event. Thank you to all students and staff who participated. Our school has been saddened by the losses of a dear teacher and of a sixth grade student this year to these cancers. The fundraiser was a wonderful way for our school to feel a sense of accomplishment at being able to do “something” in the fight against cancer and its devastating effect on us all.

I have personally lost two friends in the last few years to cancers. We all know of someone fighting this horrific enemy. Let’s all work together to fundraise for a cure.

On April 17, will be a “Crop Out Cancer” Manteca event (organized by Cary Faruggia) for scrapbookers, stampers, and anyone wanting to learn. The community is invited to come by to browse, crop, participate in short classes to learn stamping and scrapbooking techniques, purchase raffle tickets for great prizes, visit many vendor tables such as Stampin’ Up, Creative Memories, Beth’s Bowtique, and much more. Feel free to leave me a message at 815-6550 for more information. Also, in the month of May, the fantastic event  “Relay for Life” being is held in Manteca. There are so many opportunities to help raise funds.  My family thanks you.
